No I've never been to Spain, But I've been to Tuktoyaktuk

So, now that I have 1) Rested, 2) Caught up a bit at work 3) Read my Emails and 4) Caught up on all your live journals, I can start letting some people know what happened on the trip to the North Pole.

The trip has so much depth that it could easily make a rather long novel, but I'll try to keep it a bit shorter than that.

Friday both myself and [info]moliere worked a bit late making sure our respective companies would not go bankrupt in our absence, and we got to her house at about 8pm and spent an hour packing and eating sloppy and gross burritos. We made sure we had a severe overkill of survival gear, clothing and road auto repair equipment, thinking this was more than we could ever need. The funny thing is, you would be hard pressed to find anything we packed that did not get used on the trip, including the emergency survival equipment. After we were packed, we reset the trip odometer on her Father's Oldsmobile Bravada (yes, this *is* your father's Oldsmobile) and took off to drop off the Hedgehog in Mount Vernon. These are not fancy codewords, we really did have to drop off a hedgehog in Mount Vernon.

Wow. I followed your post from [info]welovegeeks. That was indeed geeky and wonderful. What will you do for your next birthday? :-)

What an awesome report. :D

What kind of vehicle would it take to -not- suffer from frozen gas/steering/wires/passengers?

Incredible story. Sounds like a great adventure!

It totally was!

Pretty *ahem* cool trip.

One question: did you spot Sasquatch?

Unfortunately no. I think it was too cold for them.

Good lord! What an adventure!
I'm glad that you are both back safe and sound.
And that her Mommy isn't going to hunt you down.
Mommies are pretty scary when they want to be. My mother can still catch me if I try to bolt, even after 4 knee surgeries.

I'm originally from Juneau, and, you see, we used to go to Whitehorse for Vacations, because it was, you know, somewhere different.

lol. I have a new perspective on those places. Juneau seem like it is a pretty nice place, judging from the area east of the mountains in Stewart.

Happy B-Day!

What an incredible adventure! You should publish the chronicles somewhere! Definitely memorable, eh? :)

I now have newfound respect for why my grandparents decided to move to the US from northern Quebec after their families lived in the same place for centuries...and understand why they had so many kids!
;)

I feel like such a sun-spoiled wimp now!

Re: Happy B-Day!

lol. Thanks for the birthday greetings!

damn, that was so awesome to read!

still defrosting

my favorite photo is still the ".sig" one.. hehehe... it was an amazing trip.. let's not go again, eh?

breathtaking. you're really making me daydream about this. i linked this post in my journal, btw.

Awesome Trip you had! definitley a once in a lifetime experience was had :)

[info]popcultureicon told me this was the best post ever. He was right.
Incredible story and the pictures! The snow is so blue.

Near Stewart they have the 5th largest Blue Ice Glacier in the world, and it is also the most accessible (you can see it from the highway). One of the reasons I loved Stewart so much. Stewart I might consider going back to, as I only got to spend about 30 minutes there.

Wow, thats pretty cool. :)

that's the most amazing thing i've ever seen. [info]bigbrain61 told me that you were his hero for this. now you're mine too! what a great adventure!

Thanks! I'm Flattered!

Do call me crazy but...

That's encouraging! I've always wanted to make that trip and the crazy thing is that all sounds like fun to me! What a great post. I'm a photographer, and would absolutely love to experience some of the unworldly weather and spy those iridescent clouds. Something I'll want to see will be (along the lines of clouds again for some reason) the nacreous clouds above Antarctica. -ok I have an interest in atmospheric optics, I'll admit it. ;)

One challenge I'd see is getting battery life of a digital camera to last more than 4 seconds in those temps. I'd be curious what that would do to the development of film also.

Re: Do call me crazy but...

Yea... we were replacing betteries like crazy... About 2 sets a day.

Now I feel like a total wimp for getting frostbite at the Steelers game. :-p

amazing story. I am tired so the only thing that I can think of to say is good for you!
;-)

OMG!! This trip, and you, totally kick ass!! This is so awesome! Wow.

wow! Thanks!

JESUS CHRIST, USE AN LJ-CUT!

* smites the impious *

have you no respect for adventure?

Wow amazing trip. I should do that with my friends one of these days... Found you in the seattle comm btw.

thank you for writing of your adventure for us. my admiration for the daring - and the rationality behind your guys' planning!

you are the shit!!!

This beats my crazy Christmas 1995 road trip with skinflint aunt and uncle and cousins... from Langley, BC to Calgary, AB to Edmonton, AB to Prince George, BC, and back.

I didn't know there was such a thing as thermal underwear, and I suffered!

Oh, and I peed in the snow a lot.

Wow. I didn't know driving that far north was possible this time of year. I enjoyed your story very much.

Did you know what kind of wolf it was that you guys saw? (My main squeeze and I have a "points" game with wildlife; wolves are considered most elusive and are worth the most, lol.)

I'm not sure what kind. It was grey and seen between Whitehorse and Dawson City.

EVER HEAR OF A FUCKIN LJ CUT?

love you

I drove to the North Pole... you can at least scroll down a page or 2!

Followed you from welovegeeks...

What an amazing trip...very inspiring!

I want to visit Tuktoyaktuk one day. (I want to go to Tuk U, har har.) Anyways, the closest I have been to the poles is Fort McMurray, which is in northern Alberta...and that was damn enough cold for me.

When my Dad was younger, and working in the Arctic (Tuk), he once drank so much 'Yukon Jack' that he passed out and woke up the next morning, naked, under furs, in a igloo. Or so he says.

Re: Followed you from welovegeeks...

LOL. I can see that. I hear they do have "Tuk U" shirts up there, but there was NOTHING open this time of year. It's pretty much a summer town I suspect.
